Sometimes the best career opportunities come from a simple conversation.
For Jessica, the journey to becoming a flight attendant began during one of the most challenging seasons of her life. While traveling frequently between San Diego and New York City for her daughter’s cancer treatments, she found herself talking with flight attendants on nearly every trip.
She often asked how long they had been in the profession. To her surprise, many of them shared that they had started later in life. Some had raised families first. Others had become grandparents before beginning their aviation careers.
Those conversations planted a seed.
After her daughter completed treatment and was in good health, Jessica decided it was time to pursue a career she had never considered before. In 2023, she began the process, and by May of 2024 she officially became a flight attendant.
Today, at 52 years old, she says she is incredibly happy with her decision.
Helping People Every Day
For Jessica, the best part of being a flight attendant is serving others.
She enjoys helping make travel easier and less stressful for passengers. Whether it is answering questions, helping families get settled, or simply offering a smile, she knows that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
The career has also given her opportunities to explore cities and destinations she may never have visited otherwise.

Jessica encourages anyone interested in becoming a flight attendant to begin by researching airline career websites. Each airline has its own hiring process, and signing up for job alerts is a great way to stay informed.
She also recommends watching YouTube videos created by flight attendants to better understand what the job is really like before applying.
A New Beginning at Any Age
Jessica’s story is a reminder that it is never too late to pursue a new career. Life experiences, family responsibilities, and unexpected challenges do not have to prevent someone from starting over. Sometimes they prepare you for the career you were meant to have.
