Some careers come full circle.
For Frankie, horses have been part of her life for as long as she can remember. Growing up in a horse racing family, she was riding horses by the age of two. The stable was more than a place to visit. It was where she learned responsibility, discipline, and a love for these incredible animals.
Although horses were always part of her story, Frankie chose a different path as a young adult. She attended the United States Naval Academy and went on to serve as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy. Her military career challenged her as a leader and taught her the value of perseverance, teamwork, and commitment.
A little more than two years ago, Frankie returned to the world she had loved since childhood.
Today, she specializes in retraining Thoroughbreds after they retire from racing. These horses have spent their early years training for speed and competition. Frankie helps them transition into new careers, whether as riding horses, sport horses, or trusted companions. Every horse is different, and each one requires patience, consistency, and an understanding of how to build trust.
She admits the work is demanding, but she genuinely loves what she does.
Learning from Experienced Trainers
For anyone interested in becoming a horse trainer, Frankie recommends finding a local trainer who is willing to teach. Even shadowing an experienced professional can provide valuable knowledge that cannot be learned from a book alone.
Working with horses requires more than riding ability. It takes observation, communication, and a willingness to keep learning from both people and animals.
Following Your Passion
At 33 years old, Frankie has combined the lessons she learned through military service with the passion she discovered as a little girl riding horses. Her story is a reminder that our careers do not always follow a straight path. Sometimes the experiences we gain along the way prepare us to return to what we have loved all along.
One thing is certain: Frankie has someone cheering her on every step of the way. Her mom is incredibly proud of the woman she has become and the meaningful work she is doing with these remarkable animals.
