21 Aug From Apprentice to Offshore Expert: Nathaniel’s Path to Becoming an Electronic Technician
Not every journey into the trades begins in a classroom. For Nathaniel, his path started at home. Homeschooled and hardworking, he followed a hands-on route into one of the most demanding and rewarding trades out there, offshore electronics.
Nathaniel got his start as an electrical helper at a shipyard. From there, he stepped into an apprenticeship as an electrician. Five years of experience and dedication eventually earned him a supervisor role. But that was just the beginning. He accepted a position with a contractor working offshore, and today he serves as an electronic technician on an oil rig.
His schedule is unique. He works twenty-eight days on, then has twenty-eight days off. It is a rhythm that suits his life and gives him quality time with his family between shifts at sea.
Now 38, Nathaniel is proud of the career he has built. He is not the only one. His eleven-year-old son already dreams of following in his footsteps.
Nathaniel’s advice for those considering a similar path is simple. “Make sure it is something you want to do.”
With four children at home and a career that allows him to provide for them while doing work he enjoys, Nathaniel is proof that skilled trades can offer both stability and purpose.
