23 Jun From Art Director to Culinary Artist: Ros’s Journey to Becoming a Chef in Spain
Sometimes the best careers begin with a simple question: What truly makes me happy?
For Ros, that question led her from the world of graphic design to the heart of a kitchen in Barcelona, Spain. Her journey from art director to chef is a powerful example of what happens when you follow your passion and turn it into a profession that brings joy to both yourself and others.
From Studio to Stove
Ros began her career as an art director at a design agency. She enjoyed the creativity and fast pace of her work, but when she came home at the end of the day, she found something else that brought her peace—cooking. Time spent in the kitchen reminded her of her childhood, helping her Spanish and Italian grandmothers prepare traditional family recipes. It became her escape and her joy.
Eventually, Ros made a life-changing decision. She enrolled in Hofmann Culinary School in Barcelona and left behind the corporate design world. It was a leap of faith, but one she never regretted.
Teaching and Inspiring Through Food
Today, Ros owns and operates her own cooking school, Te Quiero Cocinar, located in the heart of Barcelona. She now spends her days teaching others how to make the same comforting dishes she grew up with—passing on culture, tradition, and joy through food.
She says switching careers was the best decision of her life. “It was scary at first,” she shares, “but I absolutely love it.”
Ros’s Advice for Future Chefs
Ros encourages anyone thinking about becoming a chef to follow their passion. Cooking is more than a job—it is a calling. You need to love creating dishes, experimenting with flavors, and making people happy through food. That love is what makes the long hours and fast pace worthwhile.
