25 Apr From Executive Assistant to Published Author: Theddee’s Inspiring Second-Act Career
Some of the best careers do not begin until later in life. At 50 years old, Theddee stepped into the work that brings her the most joy. Sixteen years later, she has written and published seventeen books, with several more on the way. Her story is proof that it is never too late to build a career you love.
For many years, Theddee worked as an executive assistant. It was steady, professional work, but the spark of something bigger was waiting in the background. That spark caught fire when she decided to honor her CEO with a special gift for the boss’s 60th birthday. A story.
Theddee wrote an inspirational tale about a racehorse and the team that came together to encourage the injured horse to win again. She recruited a fellow employee to illustrate the story. What started as a heartfelt birthday gift became her first published book. The response showed her something she had not fully realized about herself. She was a storyteller.
Shortly after, Theddee attended a writing retreat called Jump Start Your Book. That experience lit the fire even brighter. From that point on, she committed to her craft and never stopped writing.
Today, Theddee is the founder of Tales for the Hungry Heart, where she writes books for children, the child within, and grown-up kids. Her work celebrates inspiration, courage, and heart. Each book is the result of dedication to a craft she discovered later in life and has chosen to honor every single day.
Does she love being an author? In her own words, she feels deliciously blessed to spend her golden years thoroughly inspired, penning and publishing to her heart’s content.
Theddee’s advice for anyone who wants to become an author is refreshingly direct. Write every day, even if it is just for ten minutes. Find a writing coach who will help you sharpen your craft. And if you love it, just do it.
Writing and publishing is a real career path that does not require a traditional college degree. It rewards consistency, curiosity, and the willingness to keep learning. Authors today have more opportunities than ever, from traditional publishing to independent publishing, audiobooks, courses, and speaking engagements. With seventeen books to her name, Theddee is a strong example of what becomes possible when you commit to a craft.
Her story is also a powerful reminder that meaningful careers are not just for the young. At 67, she is still creating, still publishing, and still inspired. The trades and skilled careers are full of paths like this. Paths that reward passion, persistence, and people who are willing to start.
If you have a dream you keep setting aside, take it from Theddee. Pick up the pen. Pick up the tools. Start the training. The right time is now.
