01 Sep Merging Art with Industry: Alice’s Journey as a Prepress Operator
When creativity meets technology, a whole new world of opportunity opens up. That is exactly what happened for Alice, a skilled Prepress Operator who turned her love of art and computer graphics into a meaningful and rewarding career in the printing industry.
Alice was studying art in college when she realized she wanted to explore how her creativity could connect with digital tools. That interest led her to pursue an Associate of Science degree in Computer Graphics from Mount San Antonio College. From there, she found her way into the world of prepress, where she helps prepare files and artwork for large-scale printing at a folding carton company.
Now 55, Alice enjoys the variety and community her work brings. She especially loves meeting others in the industry, including clients, and being part of a team that transforms digital files into physical products.
For those interested in joining the field, Alice recommends finding an internship and learning from everyone in the department. “Learn how to do prepress and understand why it is important. Ask questions and get tips from the people around you,” she says. Hands-on learning and mentorship can open doors and build a solid foundation for a future in this trade.
