14 Jul From Classroom to Creative Career: Emily’s Journey in Printing and Graphic Design
Emily Sanderson is turning her artistic skills into a career with real-world possibilities. As a student at Riverside City College, she is diving into the printing and graphic design trade while building a future that blends creativity with entrepreneurship.
Learning the Trade and Building Skills
Emily’s interest in design started with a simple idea—to bring her own artwork to life. Now, she is a graphic designer and printer who creates custom items like silk screened shirts, stickers, and embroidery pieces. She prints her own designs onto physical products, using the skills she has learned at Riverside City College.
She currently works as a print assistant in the college’s print shop, where she is gaining hands-on experience with professional printing equipment. Her work allows her to mix creativity with production, and she loves being part of a team that helps others bring their ideas to life.
Taking the First Step
When asked if she is happy with her decision, Emily says yes without hesitation. “It opened a lot of opportunities,” she shares. Her advice for others thinking about the printing trade is simple but powerful. “Go for it. Anything you feel like you really want to explore, test it out. And if you like it, go for it.”
At 29, Emily is already thinking ahead. She hopes to either land a full-time role in a print shop or launch her own business selling custom merchandise. Either way, her goal is to stay creative, stay productive, and keep learning.
