From Church Volunteer to Assistant Production Director: Heber’s Career in Live Event Production

At just 25 years old, Heber has turned his interest in music and technology into a career in live event production.

His journey began as a volunteer at church, playing drums and learning about recording and live production. What started as an opportunity to serve eventually became a career path he had not fully imagined.

Today, Heber is an Assistant Production Director, helping bring events to life behind the scenes. After five years of learning and growing in the industry, he says he loves what he does.

His story shows how volunteering, asking questions, and being willing to take on new responsibilities can open doors to a rewarding career.

It All Started with Playing Drums

Heber’s introduction to production began through music.

He started volunteering at church, where he played drums and became interested in recording them. That curiosity eventually led him to explore the technical side of live productions.

Church services and events require much more than what an audience sees on stage. Behind the scenes, production teams manage microphones, audio, lighting, video, and the technical details that help an event run smoothly.

Heber began learning those skills by getting involved and taking advantage of opportunities to help.

Rather than waiting until he knew everything, he was willing to learn as he went.

From Production Technician to Leadership

As Heber gained experience, he continued taking on new responsibilities.

He moved into a Production Technician role, where he developed his technical abilities and learned more about what it takes to support live events.

Each opportunity helped prepare him for the next.

Over time, his experience and willingness to grow led him to his current position as Assistant Production Director.

It has been a five year journey from volunteering at church to building a professional career in production.

Heber’s experience is a reminder that skills developed through volunteering can become valuable in the workplace.

The People Behind a Successful Event

Heber’s work became especially clear during the Riverside County Women’s Leadership Conference.

While preparing to speak at the event, a Trade Works USA representative met Heber as he was handling the microphone setup.

It was one of those behind the scenes moments that most people in the audience never think about.

Speakers need microphones that work. Presentations need to run on time. Technical problems need to be handled, often without the audience even noticing.

Production professionals help make all of that possible.

For someone like Heber, the work combines technical knowledge, problem solving, teamwork, and the satisfaction of helping create a successful event.

“Go For It!”

Heber’s advice to anyone interested in live event production is enthusiastic and straightforward.

“Go for it!”

He encourages people not to pass up opportunities, even when they are just beginning.

Be humble. Ask questions. Be willing to learn from people who have more experience.

And most importantly, be a go getter.

His own career demonstrates why that attitude matters.

Heber did not begin as an Assistant Production Director. He started by showing up, volunteering, playing drums, and becoming curious about how production worked.

He kept learning and accepting new challenges until those experiences became the foundation for his career.

A Career Built One Opportunity at a Time

At 25, Heber has already discovered a profession he genuinely enjoys.

His journey shows that getting started in a skilled career does not always require having everything figured out in advance.

Sometimes it begins with volunteering, developing an interest, and finding people willing to teach you.

For anyone who enjoys music, technology, working with people, or being part of live events, production may be a career worth exploring.

Heber’s story offers a simple reminder: Don’t overlook the opportunities right in front of you. One of them could become your career.
