09 Apr Architectural Sheet Metal Career Success at Age 22
At just 22 years old, Kyle is already building a successful life in the trades without a college degree or student debt. He works in architectural sheet metal, a specialized field that combines construction, design, and craftsmanship. Kyle’s story is a powerful reminder that with the right mindset and opportunity, you can find a path that pays well and feels fulfilling.
How He Got Started
Kyle got into the trade through a friend of a friend who had been in the sheet metal industry for nearly 30 years. That introduction was enough to spark Kyle’s interest.
“I figured I would give it a shot and see what happens,” he said.
That was four years ago. While his friend worked at a different company, Kyle found his own opportunity elsewhere, and it ended up being the perfect fit. He committed to the work and has been growing ever since.
What It Is Like Working in the Trade
Now, Kyle travels across the region for projects, from Los Angeles to La Jolla, Barstow, and even Las Vegas.
“I go pretty much everywhere,” he said. “It is pretty cool.”
He enjoys the variety, the hands on work, and the strong earning potential. While the beginning was tough, he encourages others to stick with it.
“It is definitely tough at the start,” he said, “but once you get through that, you are pretty much golden.”
Kyle’s Advice for Aspiring Tradespeople
Kyle strongly recommends the Union path to those considering a career in sheet metal.
“If you are thinking about it, I say do it,” he said. “Especially if you want to be Union. That is definitely the way to go.”
One of the biggest benefits of his journey so far? No college debt.
“No college debt. Nothing,” Kyle said proudly. “And I am making a life I enjoy.”
