07 Jul Designing a Future: Cassidy’s Path to a Career in Graphic Design
Some careers start with a pencil and a sketchpad. For Cassidy, a graphic designer with Turning Point USA, her love for art began early and her journey shows how creative interests can grow into meaningful careers.
Growing Up Creative
Cassidy always knew she enjoyed art. From a young age, she found joy in drawing and creating. But as she got older, she realized that traditional fine arts could be a difficult path for steady employment. That realization did not stop her. It redirected her passion toward graphic design.
Graphic design and advertising felt like a space where she could use her creativity and also find a job.
She earned her degree in advertising and graphic design from Grand Canyon University. But her education did not stop there. Cassidy also took classes in photography, which led to another skill she uses at work today—photographing live events for her company.
Loving the Work
At 24, Cassidy has already built a career she is proud of. She loves being able to express her creativity daily, especially in a role that aligns with her values and purpose. I love working for Turning Point, she says. I really align with all of their values and mission.
Her advice to others thinking about a career in graphic design? If you enjoy it and have a passion for it, there are a lot of opportunities. Cassidy says there are many ways to enter the field. You can go to college, but it is not absolutely necessary. I know quite a few graphic designers who are self taught through courses they found online.
Whether you take classes at a university or learn through YouTube and certification programs, Cassidy believes the most important thing is staying curious and willing to learn.
