A year can change a lot.
When Emma first met Trade Works USA, she was considering cosmetology school. Choosing what to do after high school is a big decision, and Emma was trying to determine whether cosmetology was the right path for her.
She decided to go for it.
Emma enrolled in a cosmetology program, completed her training, and earned her license. Today, at just 19 years old, she is already beginning her career as a cosmetology stylist.
Turning Training Into Opportunity
Finishing her training was only the beginning. Emma needed somewhere to start building her career.
An opportunity came through someone she met at church who operates a small boutique salon. Emma now has a space there where she can begin working with clients, developing her skills, and building a clientele of her own.
It is an exciting next step for someone who was only considering cosmetology school a year ago.
Her journey also demonstrates the importance of relationships. Meeting people, talking about your goals, and allowing others to know what you are working toward can sometimes lead to opportunities you never expected.
Starting Her Career at 19

While many people her age are still determining what they want to study or beginning several years of college, Emma has completed her cosmetology training, earned her professional license, and started working in her chosen field.
She feels financially ahead of many people in her age group because she is already prepared to earn money using a skill she can continue developing throughout her career.
Cosmetology can also offer opportunities beyond working as a stylist. As professionals gain experience and build a clientele, some choose to rent their own space, specialize in particular services, or eventually open a salon of their own.
Emma is just beginning, but she already has something incredibly valuable: a skill she can build upon.
