07 Apr Field Service Engineer Frank Finds Purpose in Supporting Hospital Care
Frank is a Field Service Engineer who spends his workdays inside hospitals, making sure something critical is always working: medical gasses like oxygen and medical air. His job may be behind the scenes, but the impact is life changing.
“I really like knowing that I am helping people,” Frank says. “If something goes wrong with the oxygen supply, it could be serious. I help make sure that does not happen.”
From Car Repair to Hospital Systems
Frank’s mechanical journey started in a familiar way, spending time with friends who worked on cars. He learned the basics by getting his hands dirty and asking questions. That early interest eventually led him to a job at a private airplane service company, where he gained more experience and confidence.
Eventually, Frank was ready for something new. He posted his resume online, and because his experience matched the keywords the company was looking for, he was called in for an interview.
They offered him a six month apprentice position to learn the work through hands on training. When it came time for the final test, Frank passed and received his certification. Now, he travels to hospitals to inspect and maintain essential gas systems, making sure everything is functioning properly and safely.
Advice for Future Field Service Engineers
Frank is now 35 and genuinely enjoys what he does. His advice to someone looking to get into this trade is simple and honest.
“Get some mechanical experience. Even working on cars can help. But most importantly, have a desire to help people,” he says.
He also emphasizes the value of a good resume.
“Write a strong resume and put it out there. That is how I got my start,” he adds.
This is a career where real world skills, attention to detail, and a sense of purpose come together to make a real difference every day.
