20 Jul Don’t Wait to Start: Christina’s Career as a Plumbing Technician
When Christina decided she wanted to learn a skilled trade, she wasn’t exactly sure which path to take. She considered carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing. Rather than waiting for the perfect answer, she started looking at companies that were hiring and willing to train someone new.
That decision changed her career.
After the COVID pandemic, Christina wanted a job that made a real difference. She recognized that plumbing is an essential service. No matter what is happening in the world, homes and businesses need safe water, working drains, and reliable gas lines.
As she searched for opportunities, one company’s job posting stood out. While other employers expected applicants to already own trucks or tools, the company she chose offered something different. They simply said, “We have everything. Just come. We’ll train you.”
Four years later, Christina is still there and working as a Plumbing Technician.
More Than Just Water
Many people think plumbing is only about fixing leaks or replacing faucets. Christina quickly learned there is much more to the trade.
Plumbers work with water systems, but they also install and repair gas lines, drainage systems, sewer connections, and many other components that keep homes and businesses operating safely. It is a career that requires technical knowledge, problem solving, and continuous learning.
She enjoys knowing that every day brings a new challenge and that her work has a direct impact on people’s lives.
Her Advice: Start Now
At 45 years old, Christina has one piece of advice for anyone considering plumbing.
Start as soon as the idea enters your mind.
She believes many people spend too much time wondering if they should pursue a trade instead of simply taking the first step. Plumbing takes time to learn because there are so many systems to understand, but that is exactly why getting started sooner matters.
Looking back, Christina says her only regret is that she didn’t explore the trade earlier.
Her story is a reminder that it is never too late to begin a new career. Whether you are just graduating from school or looking for a fresh start later in life, skilled trades offer opportunities to learn valuable skills, solve real problems, and build a rewarding future.
