From Massage Therapist to Entrepreneur: Rebecca Slome’s Career in Wellness

For Rebecca Slome, massage therapy became much more than a job. It gave her a hands-on skill she could use to earn an income, continue learning, develop a specialty, and eventually build a business of her own.

Today, at 44, Rebecca is a certified massage therapist, maternity wellness specialist, and Founder and CEO of M2B Wellness & Media, also known as Mommy To Be Wellness.

Her career is a great example of how learning a trade can become the foundation for opportunities you may not see when you first begin.

Starting with a Practical Skill

Rebecca began by earning her massage therapy certification and working in hands-on bodywork.

But she did not stop learning.

She continued her education and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology while expanding her knowledge of wellness, business, and marketing.

Over time, Rebecca began to see an opportunity to combine her professional training with something that had become personally meaningful to her.

Through her own experiences with pregnancy and motherhood, she became interested in providing women with greater hands-on support throughout different stages of life.

That eventually led her to specialize in maternity bodywork.

Turning a Trade Into a Business

Rebecca took the skills she developed as a massage therapist and used them as the foundation for entrepreneurship.

She created M2B Wellness, a mobile spa and wellness company focused on serving women through different stages of life.

Her journey demonstrates one of the possibilities that can come from developing a specialized skill. A massage therapist may choose to work for an established business, develop an area of expertise, build a private practice, or eventually pursue entrepreneurship.

Rebecca chose to build something of her own.

Today, she combines her experience in massage therapy, wellness, kinesiology, and business as she continues developing M2B Wellness.

A Career with Different Paths

One of the things Rebecca appreciates about massage therapy is the variety of career paths available.

Massage therapists can work in settings such as spas, wellness centers, resorts, hotels, and private practices. Some may choose to specialize in particular types of massage or work with specific populations as they gain experience and additional training.

For Rebecca, that flexibility allowed her career to evolve as her interests evolved.

What began with massage therapy certification ultimately became a specialized career and a business.

Keep Learning and Find Your Specialty

Rebecca encourages anyone considering massage therapy to begin by getting the proper training and certification and then continue developing their skills.

Her advice is not to assume that your first position has to define your entire career.

Learn the trade. Gain experience. Discover what interests you. Continue your education when it makes sense, and remain open to opportunities to specialize.

Rebecca followed that process herself, and at 44, she has built a career she genuinely loves.

Her story is a reminder that learning a trade can be the beginning rather than the destination. A practical skill can lead to experience, specialization, leadership, and even entrepreneurship.
